Quest: A New Digital Magazine for Sci-Fi and Fantasy

Quest is an online magazine for science fiction and fantasy stories. It was created by two founders named Ross Gendels and Zane Miller. They wanted to make a special platform that fits genre fiction very well. Every story on the website gets its own unique typeface and custom artwork. This helps build a special visual world for each specific text.

The second issue of Quest launched in August 2026. It included nine fiction stories, an essay, a dispatch, eleven artists, and eleven different typefaces. The magazine received 1,154 submissions for this issue. This number is double the submissions from their very first issue. The project is funded completely by readers and subscribers who want to pay writers properly.

Science fiction and fantasy let creators question the real world easily. Zane explains that speculative worlds help people look at social structures and politics in new ways. For example, Diana Weisman wrote an essay about women reaching for swords in fashion and art. Another story by Emily Ver Steeg imagines a world where people get paid to pitch products to friends.

Ross and Zane built the website with help from Ji Park, Tiger Dingsun, and Teo Tsivranidis. The design looks like a video game interface combined with a paperback book. The team also added a chat function with random usernames and level counters. This feature brings readers together to talk about the stories they read.

The creators plan to publish print editions of both Issue 1 and Issue 2 soon. They want to show that digital fiction can also move into physical books. Quest remains free to read online for everyone who loves imaginative and boundary-pushing writing.
