Vercel Helps AI Agents Respond to New Events

Vercel Connect now supports MCP Events in a public beta release. This lets apps and AI agents receive updates from compatible MCP servers. An update can tell an app that something new has happened. The app can then connect that event with an agent's task. The announcement gives examples involving messages, issues, and feedback on documents.

For example, an agent could summarize messages when new messages arrive. Another task could involve reviewing an issue after someone creates it. An agent could also respond when a document receives new feedback. These examples connect a change in another service with work an agent can do. They describe possible uses, not measured results from a customer study.

The connection starts with a subscription to events from an MCP server. A subscription tells the service which updates the app wants to receive. Connect creates these subscriptions and renews them automatically when needed. The announcement includes an example requesting an issue-event subscription for 24 hours. This shows how a developer can register interest in a particular event.

Connect also checks the server's webhooks and sends events to the app using authenticated delivery. A webhook is a way for a service to send an update. The app receives it at a delivery endpoint, a place set up to accept these requests. Developers should use the SDK to check that a delivery came from Connect. They do this before confirming that the app received the event.

Developers can also make event discovery and subscription tools available to agents. The AI SDK connects these abilities through Connect's MCP Events adapter. In eve, agents can discover the events offered by a connection. They can then create subscriptions, inspect existing ones, or stop them. The feature links incoming service updates with agent tasks while providing tools to manage the subscriptions.
