Vercel Helps Teams Check Code with Less Waiting
Vercel CI reduces waiting by choosing affected tasks and using saved results when their inputs have not changed.
Writing code faster does not always mean finishing a product faster. Teams still need to check changes before they use them. New coding tools can create more changes, which means more checks. Vercel wants to reduce the time teams spend waiting for them. It has released an early version of Vercel CI.
CI means running checks when people send changes to a code project. Some systems run all their checks after even a small change. Vercel CI chooses work based on what the change actually affects. It uses a tool called Turborepo to understand these connections. Each task receives the computer power it needs for its checks.
The service can also use results from work already done. If a task's inputs stay the same, it uses saved results. Other tasks run separately when the work they need has finished. Teams already using Turborepo can keep their existing settings for tasks. They do not need to write another separate set of settings.
Teams can follow progress and look at problems through Vercel's tools. If a check fails, they can open that task's records. They can also see which other tasks are waiting behind it. Results appear on GitHub, where existing rules can stop unchecked changes. This keeps the checking process connected to the team's review process.
Vercel says its own checks now finish 2-6x faster than before. The service has completed nearly 8 million tasks across early users and Vercel. It is still in Beta, an early stage before wider release. Faster coding creates more work to check, so shorter waits matter.
